7.62x59 versus 7.62x54r ... What is the difference?
I ordered surplus Czeck ammo for some M-44's I picked up at the gun show for $80 each last week from www.ammunitiontogo.com . I clicked on the 7.62x54r link at the wesite and ordered four #800 round cases. When they arrived this week, I noticed the military green wooden boxes had 7.62x59 imprinted on the side of them. I opened it to reveal the tin can portion of the packaging that looks kinda like a large can of tuna or sardines that you peel back to open and again it had 7.62x59 imprinted on it. When I opened up the metal packaging, the rounds look like the 7.62x54r rounds complete with the "lip" or edge at the bottom of the round.
Does anyone know the difference in these rounds? If you go to the website and click on the image of the boxes and enlarge the image, you can see that it also has 7.62x59 on the web page images. I am confused. Are they the same round from a different country? Can I fire the 7.62x59's in my M-44's? |

Tried Google first. No good answer, just folks saying that 7.62x59 was a misprint, but it is clearly not. I wrote the seller. I will hear back from them when they open on Monday I suppose. I was just hoping to "test the collective brilliance" before hand.
